"One night in Bangkok" is certainly not enough to experience the fascinating city in all its facets! That's why we spend seven nights in two different parts of the diverse metropolis, enriched by a tour to the first two Siamese kingdoms of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya.
Having just escaped the gray November of Vienna, we land in tropical Bangkok and enjoy our luxurious location at the Peninsula Hotel directly on the Chao Phraya River, from where we can easily reach our first city explorations by water: We walk through extraordinary urban projects - such as the revitalization of the Talad Noi District with small galleries, shops and cafés - to exciting conversions and interesting art projects until the lively, dense and colorful Chinatown. A view from the gigantic Mahanakhon Tower provides an overview of the megacity on the Gulf of Thailand, crisscrossed by the characteristic meanders of the majestic Chao Phraya and numerous canals. Visits to the Austrian Embassy by Holodeck Architects, to the open space concepts of the community hubs The Commons and to the newly opened Dib Bangkok Art Museum round off the first part of our program in Bangkok.
The tour continues to the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Sukhothai and Ayutthaya, where we explore temple and palace ruins, pagodas and impressive Buddha statues in the magnificent historical parks with a cheerful bike ride and also visit contemporary projects by local architects.
Back in Bangkok, we now experience the city starting from the Pathum Wan district and our perfect and chic location of the Siam@Siam Design Hotel, from where many sights are within walking distance - a rarity in Bangkok! Along the colossal Skytrain, over pedestrian walkways and connecting paths between Metro stations and the open spatial concepts and green space planning of the innovative shopping malls, we experience interesting insights of the urban jungle. At the brilliant conclusion, "Bangkok at night" opens up to us from one of the exciting hotel roof terraces.
We are very much looking forward to the new ARCH ON TOUR, which, as usual, leads to selected examples of architecture from different eras, combined with cultural experiences, nature and well selected Lucillian delights.
