In the 19th century, Arthur Krupp developed the Berndorfer metal goods factory, founded by his father in 1843, from a small cutlery manufacturer to a global corporation with 6000 employees, for which the corporation also built housing estates, houses, schools, churches and theaters. With our day tour we visit the so-called Krupp town of Berndorf with its amazing facilities.
The former sausage factory, redesigned and transformed by Atelier Hochstrasse into today's Krupp-Stadt-Museum shows numerous exhibits from the overwhelming cutlery and tableware collection and provides a historical overview of the factory and city with drawings, plans and photos. Two city walks lead through the settlements of the workers' colony and civil servants' dwellings and explore the surprisingly sophisticated urban planning by Ludwig Baumann of the church and school with its classrooms richly decorated in a wide variety of historicizing styles.
Architect Gabriele Schöberl, who has designed several buildings and renovations in Berndorf, leads the expert guided tour through the city and its history.
An exclusive champagne reception followed by a lunch buffet in the private Villa Hauch, the former management building of the Krupp food warehouse, takes care of your physical well-being.
