The tour starts in the vibrant city of Seoul, where we extensively explore its diverse neighborhoods in four exciting days. From historical milestones, temples and palaces to contemporary highlights of local and international architects - including the recently opened Photo Museum-Photo SeMA by Jadric Architektur, the Odong Forest Library by Unsangdong Architects, and the SongEun Art and Cultural Foundation by Herzog & de Meuron - outstanding urban interventions, walks to hidden architectural treasures, galleries, shops, and night markets are on our agenda.
The journey down south takes us to the Hahoe Folk Village, where we study traditional Hanok house typologies and stay in the thematically matching accommodation of the Rakkojae Hahoe Hanok Hotel. The next day is dedicated to the expansive landscape park of the Arboretum Sayuwon, with its numerous pavilions and sculptural objects - such as those by IROJE architects & planners and Alvaro Siza. The next stopover at the St. Benedict Waegwan Abbey offers us the extraordinary opportunity to stay overnight in the monk's accommodation, modernly interpreted by IROJE architects & planners. The journey continues to Busan, Korea's southernmost port city, where we will explore exciting architectures, led by representatives of Pusan National University, alongside Coop Himmelb(l)au's legendary Cinema Center.
A short flight takes us to the volcanic island of Jeju, a place that is special both in terms of landscape and history. Here, we enjoy the special chance to stay at the brand-new Aewol Hangeo Hotel, the "Refuge of the Moon by the Water" (also by IROJE architects & planners), and relax at the gorgeous hotel facilities - such as the bathhouse located in the surrounding pine forest. We also visit other interesting places, museums, and squares on the paradise island before we conclude the versatile tour with a visit to the remarkable Book City in Paju and enjoy a cheerful last evening together.
The new ARCH ON TOUR will, as always, be expert accompanied and guided by international and local architects on site and offers besides valuable architectural insights authentic culinary delights and leisure activities.
